Gringa (14 min) Claudia Murray, dir.
Gringa is a bilingual short dramedy that explores the meaning of family and freedom. Vanessa, an overworked Cuban-American millennial, is hours from her flight to Havana. But one man stands in the way: her eccentric grandfather. She needs to pack. He needs her to drop everything and track down a rare car part for a relative. She reluctantly joins his wild goose chase. During the journey she encounters several surprises – including her grandfather’s taxidermy phase – and has a few surprises of her own. Ultimately she must reevaluate her priorities as she confronts the disconnect between her life in Florida and the lives of her relatives in Cuba.
